It quite annoys me how in season 3 Eren/Mikasa started to state the facts why Armin should have gotten the syringe over Erwin and everyone was like yeah that’s true but then nobody would cite half of what Erwin had done which makes sense since they didn’t really knew Erwin well enough in compare to Levi and Hanji, still Armin got picked obviously because he’s the mc best friend. People tempt to forget that in S2 the only reason they were even able to get Eren back was because of Erwin and he did it with one fuckin arm! Even Mikasa couldn’t do much. Now I know why in Levi’s perspective it did make sense to not give Erwin the syringe but to be honest I still didn’t like how they didn’t give Erwin enough credits back then.

It's not that Eren and Mikasa didn't give Erwin enough credit. I think they also thought Erwin was the better choice but Armin is their friend.

They did that because they wanted to show that Armin proved himself and even got recognized by Erwin, that he deserved the syringe. They knew that Erwin had more experience and was probably a better leader, but no one can deny Armin's important role in getting to where they were. They were just trying to convince Levi that their friend could save humanity too. Keep in mind that that scene was one the toughest on them emotionally and mentally in addition to being in the battlefield and just barely surviving. Plus they were only 15!

Levi just didn't want Erwin to have to continue to "become a devil" by throwing lives away to reach their goal. Letting him die freed him from his duties I guess

But If Erwin survived AND stayed as the scouts commander after they'd reached the basement I feel like season 4 would have ended very quickly. He would have come up with some masterplan for eldia to take over the world.

But if Armin died I feel like Eren may have taken a different route of actions, probably for the worse since losing Armin would fuck him up big time

It's great how threads like this keep appearing which only supports how the characters are well written enough so that people keep debating over such a difficult decision years after that decision was made.

Also Erwin got all the credit he deserved. He's one of the most beloved characters in the series for a reason, and he fullfilled his role amazingly well.

I thought the show made it pretty clear that it was time to let Erwin rest. His whole final battle, you could tell he was going to sacrifice himself and that he had already accepted/anticipated his death.

Erwin is well written, Armin is okay I guess. Well no because I literally never saw somebody mention that he’s the main reason why they were able to get Eren back in S2. If it wasn’t for him Aot would have ended there. lol

I would say anticipated but not accepted since he wanted to see what was in the basement. Also if Erwin wouldn’t have raised his hand by reflex Levi would prolly had picked Erwin still. Like I said from Levi’s pov especially after the hand raise it made sense why he didn’t pick him.

It was time for new faces to take the central role. Erwin did great in his time, but Armin is ultimately the future.

I mean Armin did really great things. After Eren transformed for the first time and no one was understanding what was going on, Armin defended his friend who is a titan (aka potential threat for everyone inside the walls) from being killed there on the spot. He came up with the plan to plug the Trost wall, he was also the one to reveal Annie's true identity and the one who suspected Reiner and Bertholdt could be Titan shifters. Not only that, but he managed to find where Reiner was hiding in the Shiganshina's battle and came up with a plan to take down the Colossal. He is portrayed as the physically weak and maybe reserved character, but I can see many instances where Armin made progress. His character is not as shallow as many people think.

As much as I like Erwin, Armin felt like the better decision to pick (not as in his usefulness but as in storywise). If Erwin didn't die then his whole speech and cavalry charge and his death wouldn't have had as much impact as it did

(spoiler)

They both can lead. After all they're both commanders. Althpugh Armin is a bit of a softy compared to Erwin.

They are gambling on that Armin one day will become greater then Erwin in fact outside of Eren and Mikasa for obvious reasons Armin out of everyone can have a decent argument to alive anyone else and their would no chance cause Armin has the potential to be even greater then Erwin that’s what they are gambling on besides Erwin always made a gamble so I think keeping Armin alive was something Erwin could live with

Did you know that YOU as a person is featured in the anime itself? The guy who kept fighting with team eren after LEVI decides its time for erwin to rest. You are kinda retarded my dude

I do not deny that but for example I wouldn’t give Armin all the credit for finding out about Reiner and Bertholdt when Hanji also was a big part why they found out. But overall I agree as a character he made decent progress!

Not sure why you would call someone a retard, also your answer made no sense. My threat is mainly aimed at the people outside the anime, the real people you know (from the live reactions I saw). Like I said from Levi’s perspective it made sense to not give Erwin the syringe. If you can’t read you should maybe think before insulting! :)
