Mary S. seems to have good intentions, but, man, I hate her! Not sure why, she's just not likeable at all. The rest of the fandom seems to agree.
Is there anyone who does like her? And why?

I don’t particularly hate her, but I can understand why. She disobeys orders and go around for revenge, she gets her team in trouble and many of them die.

The only good about her is her intentions as they are justified. She is too arrogant as well as naive. YET it's kind of funny because, even tho she is 'right', it gives you a reason to hate her xD.

I dont really like her bcs of that out-of-control state she goes on for vengeance, and if im right she bout to go on the same stuff her dad did whenever he was in lethal state.

She gonna be a big problem in season 2 most likely.

She one of the most real and realistic character in youjo senki.Blinded by anger and hatred She love her dad and all she wanna do it revenge for him.I dont hate her .She just a naive little girl who love her dad very much.Cmon dont say you guy wont act like her if someone you loved get killed by your enemy.Yes she naive and a bit arrogant but that understanable she Only 16 or 19 max.She doesnt know how war work she jusst want to renvenge for her dad.I feel sad and sorry for her.I dont hate her at all.That jusst how war can affect one person.War take away her father and let her in anger and despair.I havent read the light novel but i hope she have a happy ending.(most likely not beacause this is youjo senki)

Never noticed her name is literally Mary Sue. She makes sense as a villain, but it could have been done so much better. Also Mary Sue's are bad and boring, so no she sucks. But she kinda hot ngl.

Yeah, I like her she makes a great antagonist (much more than her father). Her presence as a antagonist and contrast to tanya ideals is what makes this movie so awesome. I am really excited waiting for what character development author has in store for her.

I love Mary. I thought she was the best part about the movie.

She's a good person, the exact opposite of Tanya. Mary's nice and struggles to stay emotionless off the battlefield, and she's fighting for selfless reasons (Up until she finds Tanya anyway) Unlike Tanya who just wants to work up to an easy life.

But Mary's also the perfect personification of human emotions and the boundless malice Tanya was talking about back in S1. Just like in Tanya's first life her actions have caused another monster willing to destroy themself to kill her.

Also her OP nature and going badass mode was tight as hell. Cheered more for her than I ever did for Tanya.
But the way she turned her back instead of just killing Tanya annoyed the hell out of me. Looks like they both have plot armor

Why anyone would think the girl whose name is pronounced "Mary Sue" Would be anything than a plot armored can-do-anything type protag is kinda beyond me.

I mean that’s kinda the whole point of her character is that she was given broken abilities by being x just to torment Tanya essentially making her a Mary sue just like how her name is literally pronounced Mary Sue just spelt different

I used to like her because she was shown as such a good daughter in the prequel. But from this movie I neither like nor hate her. I dislike her personality now but judging from overall character scale, I just pity her for being a manipulated tool of Existence X.

I dislike Mary Sioux (Sue), but not for her personality, nor her actions. Not even for her having insane raw power to the point she could (as a rookie, mind you) take on and effectively defeat in single combat a veteran mage, though exhausted she might have been.

The real problem is the lack of consequences for her actions. She blatantly disobeyed direct orders in Moskva and only got lightly reprimanded. She later did it again in Tiegenhoff abandoning an attack on enemy HQ in pursuit of personal vengeance. Had she succeeded, and she had a pretty high chance to, she could've won the battle for the Federation. It came out as hypocritical after she went on about having to fight together with their allies earlier on, though I could understand she was blinded by her desire for vengeance. We didn't get to see an aftermath for her in the movie, but she should face charges of insubordination and I can't see her being put off as a main antagonist in such a way. There also wasn't any self-reflection on her actions. I hasten to add I did not read the source material and while it might be present there or even in the second season this is irrelevant here, as the movie ended where it ended. We were given no personal consequences (aside from Tanya surviving), nor any remorse on her part.

I see people talking about Tanya killing Anson Sioux as if it was something particularly evil, especially in context of Mary's desire for revenge. I can't see it. She killed an enemy soldier in combat during war. As cleanly as it was feasible. Mary, on the other hand, after disarming Tanya proceeded to maul her barehanded and drag her by her hair towards the altar as some kind of an offering. Unnecessary cruelty. She even failed to make sure she killed Tanya, which she should have paid for with her life. But somehow she survived another knife wound and seven bullets to the torso and violent evacuation with a personal flight equipment. I can't imagine her just dying of wounds, though it would be a fitting end for her - being blinded by hatred leading her not only to death, but also to miss her chance for vengeance.

I'm not invalidating Mary's motivations. I just disagree with defining her so clearly as "in the right" in this. If she did kill Tanya wouldn't the 203rd battalion (I'm not sure what term is official) be "in the right", in turn, in seeking vengeance on her? Tanya was for them a (kinda) caring commander that followed orders and fought for her country, after all... The idea of "justice" isn't as clean cut as we would want it to be.

People hate her? She’s an excellent antagonist. That rematch at the end of the movie really took my breath away. I’m obviously routing for Tanya but I loved seeing Mary’s determination. She’s awesome.
