Seems to me like it's just EVA Films haters directing their hatred to Mari, rather than them genuinely hating Mari.

I have definitely seen some Mari haters on tiktok lol. usually can't come up with any good reasons to why they hate her tho lol. mostly just "she wasn't in the main series, she's not even important, her character is bland". lol. I'm a Mari lover personally. probably apart of my top 3 favorite characters in the series.

my hate for her comes from the fact that I associate her with the downfall of Eva, the rebuilds are so bad I have to hate something and she gets the short end of the stick, I hate anno more but I can't personally go and kick his ass. She is very hot indeed but she's useless in Eva, there is no logical reasons to like her, her fans just like her body.

being a Diehard EVA fan
I'd like to claim that we love Mari as much as any other iconic lead character in the series

I don't hate her, but there are some aspects of her that bother me. She seems one-dimensional and lacks any true character development. She doesn't appear to have any noteworthy relationships or character flaws. She is also purposefully and heavily sexualized for the viewer's benefit, which is upsetting to many.
The Rebuilds are different from the original series which was deeply psychological, and Mari's existence shows it. The problem lies in the Rebuilds, so I don't believe Mari deserves all the hate.

She ruins serious moments with shitty fanservice. I can't get over how that amazing emotional moment in 2.22 between Shinji and Misato is immediately ruined by Mari fanservice. She encompasses everything bad about the rebuilds. Shallow characters and obnoxious fanservice.

She’s is a mary sue who’s a self insert for the creators wife that’s all she is no depth nothing also she’s a 50 year old something flirting with a 14 year old boy there is nothing to like about her.

She was created for marketing i’d bet definitely felt shoehorned in just a quirky girl trope that doesn’t take anything seriously and simply there for new fans to gush about.

Honestly I felt like Mari was one of those background characters who get together with the mc, just bc of plot. Like where is the relationship progression. Mari relatively shouldn’t be a character cause she offers nothing to the story except giving shinji random love that came out of no where.

You hate Mari because she is a one-dimensional, badly written character who adds nothing to the plot except needless and thematically contradictory fanservice and wastes valuable screentime.

I hate Mari because I want Shinji to have sloppy gay sex with Kaworu instead.
