U2 frontman Bono was flying from Dublin to Germany when a door came off his plane, and his luggage fell out. None of the other members of the band were on the plane.

The rear door of the Learjet 60 D-CGEO fell off at 8,000 feet, according to the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation.

Although it sounds scary for a door to fall off mid-air, Bono and his fellow passengers were not in danger.

"What happened here is very unusual, but they were never really at risk,” aviation expert John Nance told ABC News. “The passengers may have been scared when they heard a noise, but they never lost pressurization.”

The plane, which was manufactured in 1999 and refurbished in 2011, landed safely at Schönefeld Airport in Berlin.

No injuries were reported.

Bono was on his way to Germany to meet with Gerd Mueller, the German minister of economic cooperation and development, before heading to the Bambi international music awards in Berlin to accept an award with his fellow U2 band members.

The German bureau is investigating the incident; a final report could take as long as a year.

The Learjet 60 has generally had problems in the past due to its tires, but the Aviation Safety Network has no previous records of a door falling off during a flight.
