I cried throughout some parts of the series. I bawled my eyes out on Episode 10. When I rewatched the series before watching the film (when it was released in cinema)... I cried more throughout the episode, because I knew what was coming. Episode 10 is rough.

No, and I generally cry to anime. I think it’s cuz of the predictability of each little story, the wackiness of the main characters psyche and background, and the over embellishment of the art and animation. It proved to me that more animation is not always better, especially when it’s overly modernized and shiny.
