Arthur Samuel Joseph (born January 23, 1946) is an American author, speaker, and vocal mentor based in Los Angeles, California. He is known for developing a vocal training approach that he trademarked as Vocal Awareness. In 1964, Joseph founded the Vocal Awareness Institute, which is located in Encino, California..[1]
Joseph has authored seven books focused on vocal training. He has been referred to as a "communications expert" by The Wall Street Journal[2].
Throughout his career, he has worked with various individuals in fields such as entertainment and sports. Some of the individuals who have participated in his programs include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charlton Heston, Sean Connery, Sylvester Stallone, Angelina Jolie, Sally Field, Steven Seagal, Aaron Boone, Barry Larkin, Magic Johnson, and Dwyane Wade.[3]
Career
editJoseph studied music, philosophy, and psychology.
Joseph has taught voice at the University of Southern California School of Theater and has served as a visiting artist at both Yale University and George Washington University. He was also a visiting professor in the New York University Graduate Extension program. In 2017, he developed a professional vocal training program for sportscasting talent at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida[4]
Vocal Awareness
editVocal Awareness is the name of the vocal training method developed by Arthur Samuel Joseph. The method focuses on speaking and vocal techniques, which are presented through various media, including books, CDs, DVDs.
As the founder and chairman of the Vocal Awareness Institute, Joseph offers vocal and leadership education through seminars and master classes.
In his book Vocal Leadership: 7 Minutes a Day to Communication Mastery (2013), Joseph outlines a series of habits he refers to as the "7 Rituals."[5]. These include: "Thank You to My Source," "Love and Let Go," "Allow a Slow, Silent, Conscious Loving Breath," "See the Edge and Arc of Sound," "Take My Time," "Pay Attention/Deeper Listening," and "Be My Self."
