God, if I had to shut down a hospital it would be Texas Presbyterian

http://news.yahoo.com/report-texas-ebola-nurses-had-no-protective-gear-200612423.html

WTF, nobody did their job at all. I hope both nurses sue if they survive and the CDC needs to fire some folks as well.

You see this kind of lack in quality/workmanship/ethics everywhere now, sadly. I always get a bit irked when I walk into a place like Popeye's or KFC and I see the entire crew walking around without head gear. I always stare at my food before I touch it because I'm trying to spot hair.

Then I take those $1000 surveys they give you on the receipt to complain. Haven't won yet :<

So why haven't some crafty mudslimes weaponized that shit yet? Suicide bombing, Ebola style.

Infect yourself. Buy a syringe. Get on a bus. Stick yourself. Stick 20 people as you walk to the back of the bus. etc.

I think most cases in developed country is because of the lack of concern that it could happen. The attitude of 'we have the best healthcare system so it's not gonna get us' maybe helps when it comes to calm the masses, but the truth is it's undermining the deadly potential of the virus as shown by the lack of concern regarding safety precautions in dealing with the virus and it's potential.

Ebola spread through bodily fluids. This small details is something that is often undermined in the media as something that people should not be afraid of, while it was the key of preventing the spread in the population. Ebola virus could lives outside the body for hours in dry surface, and if the liquid form is intact it could lasts for days.

One of the main misconception is that you have to make direct contacts with the person with Ebola to catch one. Sneezes could spray the virus to nearby objects, as well as wiping eyes, coughing, wiping sweats, could transfers the virus to objects by the victim hands. We should take this self inoculation into perspective, especially studies shown that people touched their faces an average of 3.6 times per hour, and common objects an average of 3.3 times per hour, everyday.
The most important things in life is the people that you care about

I won't say that. They are in infection units - a special isolation ward. Hospital won't be that careless to use inexperienced staff supposedly. They need to find out what's wrong indeed.

that would be dumb. getting stuck by a random syringe would compel many people to visit the doctor immediately and that would effectively control the outbreak

better to just go around kissing or sneezing on people. or you could get in random fights just so you can spit in their face once you pin them down and after you do that you just book it somewhere else

Airline notifying 800 passengers linked to flights taken by nurse infected with Ebola

Frontier says passengers linked to flights she took include those aboard her Dallas-to-Cleveland flight on October 10, a return flight four days later and five later flights that used the same plane.

The expanded efforts came after officials said she may have shown symptoms of the virus four days before authorities first indicated. Ebola is contagious when someone is symptomatic.

"A first world country is probably the worst place it could pop up just because of the dense population. Even if it can be overcome in the end, it still has the potential to spread like a wildfire and do some damage."

All the nay-sayers here that were like "Oh...well, it can't spread that easily" or "Well healthcare is so advanced in those countries they don't have to worry about it"....remember we're talking about people and people do stupid shit. One of those things is poor hygiene. Another is not go to the doctor right away when they start feeling sick.

A virus is called a virus because it's a fucking virus. It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do...spread....like a virus. It starts out with 1....one becomes 2....2 becomes 4....you know the rest.

The apathetic and ignorant need a fucking kick in the teeth.

Isolating a country, especially multiple countries, is very difficult. If medical workers can't come back to the US then they will not volunteer to travel to these countries to help out in the first place. This will just cause the situation in those countries to get worse, allowing the disease to spread further and giving it a higher chance of mutating and a lower chance of being stopped. If these countries are overrun with the disease, their governments could collapse and cause major strife even once the virus is gone. And that's not to mention the massively increased number of deaths (added by me). Also, there will be millions of people trying to escape the countries and becoming illegal immigrants; preventing WHO from tracking the spread of the disease.

You can't actually stop people from getting into the country if they really want to; it's much better to be able to track their travel. Not to mention the fact that they can just fly to an unaffected country, then fly to the US.
Pretty much this.
People who understand the dynamics of the situation and have the best interests of the United States and Africa are vehemently opposed to such a travel ban. The people who advocate it are hysterics who haven't got a clue, and crooks playing to the hysterics for political and financial gain.

A travel ban will not help the situation because it will not be effective, and the negative consequences will be far worse than the positive ones. As far as the issues raised on our preparedness, I'm not even sure how serious, if at all, the situation is. We still don't know how the one confirmed transmission in the US occurred. All we have is broad platitudes.

Blame the Republicans (I did laugh about Murthy's comment that guns are a national health threat, no it's not guns but dumbos with guns that are a national health threat), also the Republicans should realize assault weapons shouldn't be in the hands of civilians (only Swat teams and the military should have them), a rifle or a handgun is enough for protection and hunting. Also Murthy being 36 is irrelevant, we don't know when he got his M.D., it could've been earlier than most.

I feel like news sources now feel obligated to include a whole slurry of Ebola articles every day. Since Ebola isn't airborne, though we should definitely take the necessary precautions about it and try to fix the problem, I don't think it's too big of an issue to warrant this much worry.

Ebola-chan must die and that doctor needs to live so he can help other doctors (and patients via donating blood for the treatment) with this vile disease later on.

How are we to guess at God's will? How can we be so bold and shameless to think we can know what God truly wants?! We shall all find out when we meet him, yet, for now assume he didn't want certain people alive (like a minor Great Flood (much smaller in proportion of coarse)).

You will be panicking once it comes to a town near you, a travel ban has not be implemented and the screenings aren't perfect so a few infected people will pass through the airports and it only takes a few people to infect thousands.
